Unable to connect to the wifi hotspot
If you have a new Sisyhpus and you can’t see the “Sisyphus” hotspot or can see the “Sisyphus” hotspot in your device's WiFi list but you are unable to connect to it, you can follow these instructions to "Force Hotspot"
Sisyphus found on Network, but unable to connect to app:
You may get a screen on your Sisyphus app with the heading “Sisyphus Found”, but are unable to connect. This screen only appears when Bluetooth finds the Sisyphus, but is unable to connect to it via Wi-Fi. You will see this screen if you have accidentally connected to a guest network, or if there is a setting in your router blocking the communication between the Sisyphus and your app. There are two options you can choose when on this screen.
- ‘Reset Current Wi-Fi’
- This allows the Sisyphus to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network without re-entering credentials.
- ‘Revert to Hotspot’
- This reverts the Sisyphus Wi-Fi back to its own ‘Hotspot’ network, after which you can either join the “Sisyphus” network, or connect the Sisyphus to a new Wi-Fi network.
Interference and wifi strength
The wireless adapters in your Sisyphus are sensitive to interference in environments with high wireless activity or when the router is too far away. If you suspect this to be the case, we recommend the following:
-
Upgrade wireless adapter to Edimax AC600
- Recent tables with only one USB will need a USB hub.
Check the green board on the mechanism under your Sisyphus to check for USB ports. It will either have 4 total or just 1. If it has just one port, you will need the USB Hub linked above
- If your Sisyhpus has an ethernet port can be hardwired to the network
Check the green board on the mechanism under your Sisyphus to check for an ethernet port. If it does not have an ethernet port, you will need the USB/Ethernet Hub linked above
Network naming and password for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
Dual-band routers at times can route Sisyphus to the incorrect band. We recommend the following troubleshooting steps:
- Change the SSID (name) of the 5Ghz network band, so it does not match with the 2.4Ghz SSID, if this is unsuccessful;
- Temporarily "forget" the 5.0Ghz network from your saved WiFi networks list on your smart device WiFi settings.
- Please see the owner's manual for your router for how to complete this step
Router security/firewall
If your router has a firewall or other security measures your Sisyphus may not connect to it or may connect but be unable to update its firmware. These settings are referred to as "peer-to-peer", "client communication", "client isolation", "guest isolation" or other terms depending on the router you use.
-
“Airtime Fairness” or “WiFi Multi-Media (WMM)”
- Certain routers may have these features. It can cause low bandwidth devices such as Sisyphus to fall off the network or be non-responsive. Check your router manual to disable these features.
-
AP Isolation
-
Also called Client Isolation or Guest Isolation mode, it provides internet access to devices without allowing them to communicate with other devices on the network. This prevents Sisyphus from being controlled via app while on the local network. This is commonly used on guest networks or other communal networks.
- Disable AP Isolation on your router
- If you cannot disable this feature, you will be unable to connect to your Sisyphus unless it is kept in hotspot mode.
- Please see the owner's manual for your router for how to complete this step.

VPN Usage Causing Problems
- If you use a VPN service on your mobile phone, this can cause issues communicating with other devices on your network. Disable your VPN service and try connecting to your Sisyphus again.
Further information
- Allow communication on ports 3001 and 3002

You may need to check with the manufacturer of your specific router to find these settings. We have a list below of some of the common routers we have dealt with.
- FIOS routers are known to block communication. Home Network Protection must be disabled.
- Asus routers may be using a setting called "Airtime Fairness". This is known to cause connectivity problems for our product and others such as printers. See this article to disable.
- TP Link routers use a setting called AP Isolation. You will need to disable this setting to allow our app to connect with your Sisyphus. See this article.
