*If you haven’t connected to your Sisyhpus before, check out the “Connecting to your Sisyphus” article to set up your Sisyphus before troubleshooting further
1. The lights turn on but the ball never moves
- It may take up to 5 minutes before you see noticeable movement.
- If your table is not configured correctly, it may not move. See this article: How to configure your table.
- If the sand is too thick the ball may be cleaved from the magnet and stop, start, or not move at all
- Smooth/thin the sand so the ball is able to move more easily.
- Place the ball in the center of the table, unplug the sisyphus, wait 10 seconds and plug it in again.
- Check to see if the ball is stuck on to the magnet.
- Roll the ball with your finger and see if it wants to snap back or roll against your finger.
- If it's not coupled to the magnet, place the ball in the center of the Sisyphus. Unplug the Sisyphus, wait 10 seconds and plug it in again.
- After the Sisyphus restarts the magnet should return to the center position and pick up the ball within 2 minutes.
- If you have a metal table, you can check if the mechanism is moving by looking up from underneath the table. If the mechanism is moving, but the ball is not, the ball is not coupled to the magnet. Place in the center and restart
- It may be necessary to gently press down on the sand bed around the ball to get the magnet to connect
- If the ball is still not coupled to the magnet or coupled but not moving after being plugged in for 5 minutes, connect to the Sisyphus using the mobile app or browser and do a factory reset: open settings>advanced>factory reset
2. The lights turn on and the ball moves but I cannot connect to the Sisyphus
- I've previously connected to my Sisyphus but now I can't
- If your Sisyphus is connected to your home WiFi, make sure your mobile device is on the same network before connecting.
- If your mobile device is on your home WiFi but the Sisyphus is not found, open network settings on your mobile device and check for a 'Sisyphus' network. (If you changed the name of your Sisyphus, the network will be that name instead)
- If there is a 'Sisyphus' network, connect to it with your mobile device. Restart the Sisyphus app and try to re-connect to the Sisyphus.
- Note: your phone may warn you that this network has no internet access. This is normal, make sure to select the option to stay connected to the network.
- If there is a 'Sisyphus' network, connect to it with your mobile device. Restart the Sisyphus app and try to re-connect to the Sisyphus.
- If you still can't connect and your Sisyphus has a reset button (all Sisyphus with RGBW lights), you can Force Hotspot Mode
- For more WiFi and connectivity information see this article: Troubleshooting wifi and connectivity
- I've never been able to connect to my Sisyphus
- If your Sisyphus has never been connected to you'll need to download the Sisyphus app from the Google Play or the Apple App Store.
- Go to network settings on your mobile device and connect to the 'Sisyphus' network.
- Open the Sisyphus mobile app to connect to the Sisyphus.
- If you still can't connect and your Sisyphus has a reset button (all Sisyphus with RGBW lights), you can Force Hotspot Mode
- For more WiFi and connectivity information see this article: Troubleshooting wifi and connectivity
- I've downloaded the mobile app and connected to the Sisyphus Hotspot but I still can't connect to my Sisyphus.
- Make sure your mobile app is up to date by going to the iOS app store or Google Play store and search for 'Sisyphus App'
- If the mobile app is up to date and you still cannot connect. Connect to your Sisyphus with a browser as described in Connecting to your Sisyphus
- Once connected to your Sisyphus, put it on your local WiFi by going to settings>advanced>connect to wifi network from the Sisyhpus app
- Once the Sisyphus is on your WiFi network, open a new browser window and re-connect to the Sisyphus using the aforementioned article.
- Update the firmware by going to settings>firmware update.
- You should now be able to connect using the mobile app.
3. When I plug in the Sisyphus, the lights do not turn on and the ball doesn't move. e.g. nothing happens and I cannot connect to my Sisyphus.
NOTE: Do NOT take these steps if the lights turn on and the ball moves.
- While the Sisyphus is plugged in, take a look at the power supply (black box with cord connecting to the wall).
- There's a small blue light that should be illuminated.
- If the blue light is blinking or not on, the power supply is defective. Stop here and contact us for a replacement.
Check to make sure the Sisyphus is getting power
UNPLUG your Sisyphus before taking the following steps.
- Check the barrel connector where the power plugs into the Sisyphus.
- Check that both electronic boards (the green board and the blackboard) are getting power. There should be one or two lights illuminated or flickering/blinking on each board.
- If either of the boards do NOT have lights turn on at any point, please contact customer support using the ‘help’ button below. Please be prepared to tell them which board is not turning on.
- If there are lights on both of the boards, your Sisyphus is getting power. Proceed to the next step
- Follow the steps in this article to perform a Hard Reset of your Sisyphus
